The government is planning a new high-speed rail network, from London to Birmingham and to Manchester and Leeds, known as HS2.
Anderson Acoustics is one of the UK’s leading independent acoustics consultancies and our construction team is well placed to provide services to HS2 main contractors, having worked on some of the country’s largest infrastructure projects including Crossrail, Thames Tideway and Great Western Electrification.
In addition to proven expertise in construction noise and vibration, we can help HS2 main contractors with innovative solutions for a variety of other services including community engagement, personal monitoring, sound demonstrations and noise insulation schemes.
Although the information below is covered in more detail elsewhere on our website, this page has specifically been put together as a guide to our services for HS2 main contractors. We invite you to get in touch at the earliest opportunity to chat through your requirements with John and the team.

Why Anderson Acoustics – our philosophy
We are committed to best practice and continuous improvement. We develop strong working links with our clients which help not only to achieve a good working relationship but also:
– a shared vision, strategy, policy and values
– an integrated solution through co-working,
– continuity and consistency through direct involvement throughout the process, and
– quality management systems and procedures compliant with the clients’ own systems and procedures.
We have developed a reputation as technical leaders, whilst effective project management and quality procedures mean we deliver to quality, time and budget. We develop solutions that not only meet your business objectives but are also innovative and consistent with the principles of sustainability.
We have a detailed understanding of the business of construction and associated risks. Our approach is based on understanding those risks and prioritising work accordingly with a focus on engagement with the local community and relevant stakeholders.
Environmental planning experience
Our extensive planning experience working on large environmental projects means we have the ability to support the exceptionally rigorous environmental planning process. We have generated over 400 Section 61s working with multiple Local Authorities and no delays have occurred due to surface noise, vibration or air quality issues. We have monitored over 1.6 million hours of noise and vibration on projects since 2012. The number of attended surveys has exceeded 4500.
Tunnelling project experience
Our team have the proven recent technical and project management expertise on major tunnelling and construction projects. We provided noise mitigation advice for the Crossrail Western Tunnelling and Caverns project including critical solutions for the Tunnel Boring Machine, Temporary Construction Railway (TCR) and Sprayed Concrete Lining (SCL). Our work with the Temporary Construction Railway helped to raise the restriction imposed on the maximum speed and increase the rate of construction.
We believe community engagement is a powerful tool for reducing the annoyance impact of works, helping the community to feel informed and listened to, ultimately reducing complaints and managing project risk.
Anderson Acoustics has a dedicated team handling noise complaints on behalf of our clients. We have unique expertise in handling noise complaints for Heathrow Airport and we work with AMEY and Network Rail on noise impact modelling, identification of at-risk receptors and proactive community engagement.
Quick mobilisation time
With offices in London Bridge and calibrated monitoring equipment in inventory, we have both staff and equipment ready for deployment at short notice. In the past we have mobilised six concurrent emergency surveys at two hours’ notice from the client when they were faced with the threat of site shut down.
Culture of continuous development
We invest strongly in our people and culture to ensure the highest levels of project quality and customer satisfaction, with the overarching mission of using acoustics to make a conscious contribution to a sustainable future and improving quality of life. Our people are happy, empowered and dedicated to delivering the best possible service at the lowest possible cost.
Compliance services & value consulting
We provide low cost monitoring and reporting services delivered though a focus on operational efficiency and simplicity, delivered cost savings, safety and customer satisfaction. Our consultants deliver cost-effective services for complex mitigation, planning and project management.
Organisational capability – resources and experience
Resource availability is one of the single biggest risks for any project. Anderson Acoustics are among the largest independent specialist UK practices for acoustics, noise and vibration. We have significant resources and people to meet all project requirements, with additional capacity available for emergencies.
Rail Experience/Personal Track Safety (PTS) Certification
We have extensive rail construction experience on major projects, in particular piling, including Great Western Electrification. Our team are PTS certified to work on or near the line, which enables us to respond quickly to requests for construction noise and vibration support for trackside works without constraints or PTS administration and delay.
