Longford Community School required acoustic design advice in the development of an existing 1960s building in need of modernisation. The project was to provide a social library space, with a small enclosed ‘arena’ within. This was to be above a gym which was adjacent to teaching rooms. The brief requested a spectacular design concept that would excite the students and provide a leading-edge learning and teaching environment.
Working closely with Jonathan Clark Architects and the school, Anderson Acoustics provided advice to help deliver successful acoustic conditions. Integrating the acoustic requirements into the design ensured that the environment could still meet the visionary and innovative brief, with no need for post-construction mitigation measures which could hinder the design.
The success of the project was recognised at the RIBA London 2010 Awards for architectural excellence.
